Magic Shows Bay Area & Beyond
Hello again, Master Magician and Mentalist Spencer Grey here. I'm so excited to be diving into my hometown of the San Francisco Bay Area, where we're exploring magic shows Bay Area audiences love. I've been performing magic professionally for over 20 years. I got started, as most do, very young. I’m now a full-time professional performer, providing both magic and mentalism shows for corporate events, private parties, trade shows, weddings, and everything in between.
I’ve seen some of the best magicians Bay Area has to offer — and let me tell you, we’re lucky out here. If you're traveling to the Bay Area or live nearby, keep reading, because I'm breaking down some of the best places to catch amazing magic shows and experiences from San Jose to San Francisco.
Why the Bay Area is a Hotspot for Magic
You may be asking yourself, why is the Bay Area such a great place for magic? It’s one of the most diverse communities in the United States, offering a wide variety of entertainment experiences — including some truly world-class magic shows Bay Area residents rave about.
While I’m a native of San Jose, I’m only a short 45-minute drive from San Francisco. That means I get to perform and explore throughout the entire Bay Area. San Francisco, being an international city, draws in performers from all over the world, and we'll be focusing on it the most. But I’ve got plenty of options to share no matter where you’re located.
What Makes a Great Magic Show?
There are a few different things. First: the skill of the performer. Is the magic actually amazing? Is it mind-blowing? Does it fool you? Does it have you reaching for the nearest bottle of Advil to cure your throbbing headache from all the puzzles you can’t decipher? Okay, maybe not that far. But yes, the magic tricks should be incredible.
Second: the performer themselves. Are they just showing you tricks? Or are they a polished, entertaining professional who’s spent years honing their craft, weaving in jokes, stories, and smart presentation? That’s the real difference between an amateur and a pro.
Honestly, a polished performer with decent technique will always win over someone with amazing sleight of hand but no performance chops. You need both, but the performance outweighs pure technique in most cases.
And finally — the venue. It should feel memorable, immersive. San Francisco has some incredible speakeasy-style spaces that help create that magic-before-the-magic vibe. More on those in a second.
The San Jose Magic Scene
Starting down south, the San Jose Magician scene tends to be more company- and family-driven. We’re talking corporate events, off-sites, fundraisers, galas — all that bread-and-butter Bay Area stuff.
A lot of these are private shows, often hosted at company campuses or venues like Santana Row or Hotel Valencia. While they’re not your typical date-night shows, there are still some fantastic pop-up events and touring shows that come through. If you’re in the South Bay, keep an eye on Google, TripAdvisor, or Eventbrite for local shows. When you know, you know.
California Magic Club: A Hidden Gem in Martinez
Heading north, tucked away in downtown Martinez, is the California Magic Club. It’s run by fellow magician and all-around great guy Gerry Griffin. This is one of my favorite spots for a proper magic night out.
You walk in and get a full three-course dinner. While you eat, strolling magicians work the room, performing close-up magic right at your table. It’s hands-on, intimate, and always a blast. After dessert, Gerry himself introduces the evening show, which includes an opener and a headlining act.
The stage is cozy but beautifully designed, with curtains and lights that make you feel like you’re somewhere special. Whether it’s mind reading, mentalism, or comedy magic, Gerry always brings in top-tier talent.
You can find more info and grab tickets at CalMagicClub.com.
The Magic Patio: San Francisco’s Outdoor Wonder
Next up is The Magic Patio, hosted by San Francisco Magician Andrew Evans. Compared to Martinez, this venue is larger, more theatrical, and designed for a full evening experience.
The show is held on a beautiful stage with professional lighting, sound, and even full-scale illusions. It’s a go-to spot for a date night, family outing, or night out with friends. Like seeing a play or a concert — but with way more fun corporate magic and mind-blowing moments.
And because it’s in San Francisco, you get all the charm and atmosphere that only the city can bring. Book ahead online — shows do sell out.
Marrakesh Theatre: Speakeasy Magic with Jay Alexander
Another must-see magician San Francisco experience is The Marrakech Theatre, run by veteran performer Jay Alexander. Jay’s known for his polished illusionist work and corporate gigs, and this venue nails the speakeasy vibe.
Grab a drink, settle into the lounge, and enjoy close-up magic before the formal show begins. Like the other venues I’ve mentioned, it’s not just about the show — it’s about the setting. The mood. The feeling of being somewhere rare and magical.
And this, again, circles back to what makes a show unforgettable: amazing magic tricks, a skilled and engaging performer, and a venue that makes you forget the outside world for a while.
Add Some Magic to Your Next Event

What People Are Saying
I’m proud to have earned five-star reviews on Google, Yelp, and more. Here’s what a few past clients have said:
“Spencer Grey turned an otherwise normal, suburban birthday party into a unique and thrilling event with his outrageously exciting close up magic and amazing ability to connect with and please people!”— Leslie, Google Review
“Spencer is amazing. He hosted a party for us where the attendees were a mix of seniors, adults, teens and kids - and everyone was blown away by his magic.”— Keerthy Google Review
Don’t Forget the Touring Shows
While I’ve shared three of my favorite go-to venues, there’s always something popping up in the Bay Area. Shows like Smokus Pocus (a cannabis-themed comedy magic experience), The Illusionists, and other touring acts regularly stop by San Francisco venues. Keep checking Eventbrite, Google, and yes — even ChatGPT — to stay in the loop.
